I have heard that you are supposed to ask to see the radar that tracks your speed, but I dont understand. How does this help you? What do you do when a police car or a motorcycle without a radar pulls you over? I’m not looking to beat the system or anything, haha, I am just curious.
ALSO: what do you do if they refuse to show you the radar, or whatever other devices they use to track your speed?
I know of several people who have had officers put down speeds about 5 mph faster than they were really driving, and they never asked to see the radar or whatever, so i am just curious if they tell you one thing than show you another what can happen. And i have heard of people’s charges being dropped if the office wont show them the radar. And for that matter what would stop an officer from saying you were going like 90 when you werent? I know they obviously wouldnt do this, but what do police have to do to prove you were going the speed you were going
I understand cops are doing their jobs just like everyone else, I dont believe mentioned anything that would suggest I didnt feel this way or had any animosity towards police officers.
speed limits don’t matter.i found a way to avoid getting pulled over in the first place. this only works on freeways and divided highways. if a cop is driving in the opposite direction and you know he pegged you speeding, don’t slow down. floor it. start driving as fast as you can get your car to go. by the time the cop tuns around to get behind you, your out of sight and a couple miles away. so he doesn’t know if you got off or where you are. and if he decides to try to catch you there’s too much traffic between the 2 of you. and he has to drive faster than you are driving to even catch up. sometimes if your speeding fast enough they wont even try going after you. Ive used this technique many times. just don’t try it during rush hour. you need a long open stretch of road to put a safe distance between you and the cop. and since they never got close they don’t have your plates. Ive never been pulled over using this technique. besides stopping for the police just isn’t worth the hassle anymore.

i carry a portable digital recorder in my glove box. when i get pulled over i get it out, set it on the dash in plain sight, turn it on, and tell the cop that i will be recording the incident in case i need evidence in the future…
i do this because my friend recorded a cop refusing to show him the radar gun, played the tape in court and the judge threw out the case.
this could just be where i’m from though.

You can ask to see the radar, but there is nothing that says the officer has to show it to you. Having you exit the vehicle to go back to the patrol vehicle puts your safety and the officers safety in danger, but you can always ask.
On a side note…. why would the officer lie about your speed? There are plenty of people speeding, they do not need to make up a speed to make a stop.

First things first, cops are regular people doing their job like everybody else. Also like everybody else, if you make their job easier, you are more likely to have a good experience when dealing with them. The one thing you should never do is make excuses. That pisses them off, because they’ve heard it all before and they know it’s BS, so own up and say "you got me". The other thing is to have all your stuff ready when he or she gets up to your car. Have your license, registration, and proof of insurance handy so you can hand it to them when they come to your window. They don’t want to stand in traffic any longer than they have to, and they sure don’t want to stand around while you are digging for your trash. Lastly, and probably most importantly, be nice. If you’re a butthole about it, you’ll probably get hooked up because of your attitude. Say sir or ma’am and show common courtesy. So, the rules are, tell the truth, have your stuff together, and be nice. It makes it easier on them and they are therefore more likely to give you a break because of it.
**By the way, they don’t have to show you the radar. Some will do that, but they are not required to show you the tracked speed.

there are many devices cops are able to use. they can even use there own estimates. It becomes very easy for cops to determine your speed without a device just by experience. and all spedomoters in cars are not correct actually most of them are off by a few. cop doesnt have to show you the radar. you can try to fight it in court and the cop will show up and show there evidence to prove you guilty.

Ask them how fast you were going, then ask to see the radar, if they refuse to show you say ok and get on with your day or you will be fined for disorderly conduct. Then, if you must, go to court and plead not guilty =]
